Why golfer Phil Mickelson appears to take CBD oil at the Masters
Phil “Lefty” Mickelson is one of the greatest golfers of all-time, and arguably the greatest left-handed player to ever play golf. He has won a whopping 44 PGA Tour events, including five major championships and three Masters. Phil, like millions, suffers from psoriatic arthritis; and at one point not long ago his pain became so debilitating that he couldn’t walk.
According to Web MD, “Psoriatic arthritis is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system misfires against its own joints and tendons, causing inflammation and pain. People with psoriatic arthritis may also have psoriasis, an inflammatory skin disease. Unlike some other autoimmune diseases that disproportionately affect women, psoriatic arthritis affects both sexes equally.”
This is especially troublesome for a golfer, particularly one who faces a year-round professional touring schedule as grueling as Phil’s.
Like many, Phil takes prescription medications like Enbrel to treat his arthritis, but sometimes prescription drugs come with adverse side effects. This could be why Phil appears to have turned to high grade CBD. Check out this video below taken this past weekend of Phil appearing to drop CBD under his tongue live at the Masters.
It is no secret that people all across the country are taking high grade CBD to help with psoriatic and rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. Symptoms of this conditions include:
- Intensely painful swelling of the fingers and toes
- Spondylitis, which inflames the joints between the vertebrae of the spine
- Pain at the points where the ligaments and tendons attach to your bones like the back of the heel and sole of the foot
The condition is most common in people aged 30-50.
Modern research suggests CBD oil may help fight arthritis pain because of its relationship with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS). Cannabidiol attaches itself to specialized receptors in the brain and immune system. It is suggested that the CB2 receptor is what manages pain and inflammation in the immune system, and recent research suggests that CBD possibly attaches to CB2 receptors to trigger a better ECS response.
CBD can also help people relax yet be alert and focused, so it’s no surprise golfers are turning to CBD to improve their game.
Let’s hope Phil gets the relief he needs to win his fourth green jacket.
